Synopsis 
 Life and death of Buddy Longway, white Trapper who lives in the Far West during the second half of the 19th century. In his adventures, he learns to know Indian and wife even an Indian with whom he founded a family (two children: Jeremiah and Kathleen).
Buddy Longway is a fairly atypical hero in the comic strip because he physically ages and matures over his adventures. During the few decades of his life, also following the evolution of increasingly strained relations between the Indians and the whites. The comic is an opportunity for reflection on Indian culture, miscegenation, the ages of life, the report to the nature.

Buddy Longway: (* ~ 1840-† ~ 1890). He is the son of Irish pioneers. His father, Harold Longway, is Carpenter. A fire that ruined the, he decided to leave to try his luck in America with woman and child. His mother, Maureen, died on the boat during the crossing. Come to the new world, Harold decides to accompany a convoy of settlers to the West. He entrusted his son Buddy in the custody of his brother, Jeremiah Longway, who also was the travel. It disappears in the West, Buddy will more review. Buddy keeps very few memories of his childhood, he suffers. Many years later, he meets an old Indian who asked about Harold head red [1]. His revelations the release of great weight.
The death of his uncle Jeremiah, Buddy was 20 years. He uses his inheritance to buy a horse and equipment, and hand to make his first season of Trapper. He married an Indian, Chinook, and settled with her in a cabin. Together, they have two children, Jeremiah and Kathleen.
Buddy soon became an excellent Hunter and Tracker. He learned his trade in contact with the Indians (his friend Wolf black [2], buckskin fast, the brother of Chinook) or more experienced hunters. It is often amazed by the spectacle of nature. Respectful of all living, it only takes only what he needs to live. Hunting, he let go the dominant momentum and kills older momentum [3]. Threatened by a puma, he prefers it frighten rather than kill him [4].
It is a very loving husband, a father often softened by his children. It forms Jérémie, he was offered his first rifle, introduced him to hunt. It may be mocking: it leaves Chinook skinning a bison while he hand running the plains with the men of the tribe. Generous, he does not hesitate to help others: Chinook first, friends of the fort, the couple Komonczi.
Often nicknamed “Yellow hair” by the Indians. “Buddy”, it is also the “buddy”; “longway”: the way to go.
Chinook: Indian of the Sioux tribe. Its name means “wild wind”. It forms a perfect duo with his Buddy companion with whom it will have many adventures. She had two children with him: Jeremiah and Kathleen.

Writing
The son of the episodes, the line is more realistic. The text, which is rare at the beginning of the adventure, is more present with characters and situations are densifient. The contemplation of the Wild West moves to the second plan. The graphical language is original: Derib is burst formats, opens the boxes, removes frames, inserts an image into another. It is not uncommon to find boxes of an entire page or mounted on a double page.

Derib (born Claude de Ribaupierre on August 8, 1944, in La Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland)[1] is a Swiss francophone comics creator, one of the most famous in Europe, who started his professional career at Peyo‘s studio. He is probably best known for his Western comics such as the children’s comic Yakari, and the more mature works Buddy Longway and Celui-qui-est-né-deux-fois (He-who-was-born-twice). He draws in both a realistic style, and a cartoon style (similar to other Franco-Belgian cartoonists, such as Peyo, Albert Uderzo etc. inspired by the Marcinelle style), with a fondness for drawing majestic landscapes of the American West. Many of his major works feature Sioux Native Americans in leading roles, and he has stated in interviews that he holds great admiration for the tribe.[citation needed]
